Planning your event

What should you plan for?

German in European and faith institutions

It has been an EU official language since 1958. The OSCE’s working-language list reads “English, French, German, Italian, Russian and Spanish.” Austria names German as its state language, with federal rights for linguistic minorities preserved.

German is also one of the official languages of the Swiss Confederation alongside French and Italian. For faith assemblies, the Lutheran World Federation’s 2023 Assembly handbook names it among its four working languages.

Deutsch includes a specific German audio button

Deutsch opens the German question “Wie möchten Sie teilnehmen?”. The audio control reads Deutsches Audio starten, and Lesen selects reading. The subsequent phone screens use the same language, with translated speech available through headphones and written translation for attendees who prefer to read.
