First, make the subtitle files.
You need the final video and a timed subtitle file for each language. If you already have those files, go straight to YouTube Studio.
To create them with Baian Caption Tool, upload the recording, choose your languages and download the SRT files. Check the text and timing before publishing.
Then add them in YouTube Studio.
- Open Subtitles and choose your video.
- Select Add language and choose the subtitle language. Then, under Subtitles, select Add.
- Choose Upload file, then With timing.
- Select Continue, upload the matching SRT file and save. Repeat for your other languages.
If you edit the SRT file yourself, save it as plain text in UTF-8. YouTube accepts basic SRT files and ignores styling.
Menu names can change. See YouTube’s current subtitle instructions ↗.
Check before you publish.
Play the video with each subtitle track selected. Use this short checklist for every language.
If you cut or move a section after making the subtitles, their timing may no longer match. Check the finished video, not an earlier edit.
To fix a line after uploading, open Subtitles, choose the video and select Edit next to that language. Change the text or timestamps, then select Publish.
Nothing goes to YouTube automatically. You keep control of your channel and add the downloaded files yourself.
Common questions.
How do I add translated subtitles to a YouTube video?
In YouTube Studio, open Subtitles, choose your video and add the target language. Upload that language’s subtitle file with timing, then save it.
Does Baian publish the subtitles to YouTube for me?
No. Baian gives you subtitle files to download. You add them to your own video in YouTube Studio.
Do I need another video for each language?
No. You can add different subtitle languages to the same YouTube video.
